Ever since reading Pride and Prejudice when I was much younger, Darcy has been a big favorite of mine. While a big part admittedly is because of the love story surrounding both him and Lizzy, his character shines so much in the classic for me. He was believable, very human -- he had flaws, and flaws aplenty, it seemed! And yet he grew and changed for the better: it is this that endears him to me. His character also reminds me that not everything is as obvious as it looks like: he is quite shamefully misjudged in the first half of the book, and while it is true that this could have been prevented by a more open personality-- it still gives me pause to think of how people really are: what you see isn't always what is real. I am also very partial to characters/heroes that are rather passionate about the ones that they love but are rather reserved otherwise. :D Who can't help but swoon when he says, "In vain I have struggled. It will not do. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you?" -- I have that memorized from the first time I read the book. :)

If you have ever seen the movie Pride & Prejudice, I think this is out of question. :) I actually only got to see it, after I fell in love with Colin Firth in "Bridget Jones's Diary" I went out and looked for other movies he starred in. One of them being Pride & Prejudice. When I first saw the movie I was caught....I couldn't stop watching it. I started some time in the evening and watched till late at night. Colin Firth is just amazing in this movie. No wonder most of the British women fell in love with him while the movie aired over in Britain for the first time. Even though the actor is not close to what the character is like, he gets it across so convincingly. Don't we all love the scene where Darcy and Lizzy first dance together? Or when he first proposes to her? *sigh* Never before have pride and 'rudeness' been so sexy!

Let me begin by saying that I just adore Jane Austen and out of all her works Pride and Prejudice is my absolute favorite. Mr. Darcy quickly became my favorite character when I started to read the book. He may have been proud, but he wasn't a bad person and that becomes very clear towards the end of the book and even in the beginning we can see the way he feels about Lizzy. I think he intrigues readers in such a way because of his complicated character. I almost instantly fell in love with him when I read the book and saw the movie with Matthew McFayden. I think it's irresistible the way he won't admit, even to himself. how much he loves Elizabeth, especially at the beginning and I think that is her case too. She knows she likes this person who she thinks is of horrible character but yet there is something about him. The way he put everything aside and decided to tell her how deeply he loved her is what I love the most about him, and the fact that he did so much for her even though she had rejected him. He just makes you believe in true love and wish there was someone exactly like him waiting for you somewhere. ("V")

First of all, I love men from Jane Austen books - in general. My affect began when I first saw Sense & Sensibility with outstanding Alan Rickman as Colonel Bandon and since then my love's been growing. Mr. Darcy is so special for me because of his mysteriousness - during about half of the book we don't really know the reasons of his behaviour (such as his aversion to Wickham), which makes his even more interesting. Feelings of Brandon, Mr. Knightley and other JA men are quite simple - they love their Mariannes, Emmas and so on. But Darcy's a much more complicated and layered character, as he doesn't know what he feels himself (it's only my opinion, but I think he's got a kind of inner conflict). And, obviously, Darcy's a young, handsome, rich gentleman - a dreamboat ^_~ PS. My opinion is based on the book only, because Polish television never had an idea to broadcast the series (but yay, there'll be episode 1 on 11 Jan. on BBC Prime) and the Polish premiere of the movie's in a week time.

Pride & Prejudice would not be the same without Darcy. His charecter is proud and this makes people misunderstand him. His love for Elizibeth is deep, I believe that it shows in the way that he is described many a time as staring at her and how Elizibeth believes it to be because he finds fault in her. He is mysterious in someways you can never quite work him out until later on in the book. when he shows his true feelings and is rejected he still strives on until the meeting at Pemberly, He makes you want to continue reading just to see wether his love means anythink to Elizibeth atall. The 1995 version of P&P i liked the most out of The other tv adaptions for the plain reason that it captures darcys charector, colin firth plays Darcy Excellently. Not only is he handsome but he also keeps the watcher guessing just like in the book. P&P is one of the greatest books ever written.
